I really like Jenkin's blog about student blogs. I have only played with blogs but even with my minimal participation in this "sphere" I can see how much it would do in terms of connection. What a great way for students to learn to express themselves articulately, get feedback from a large audience, improve and eventually get noticed!!
I have not tried this with my high school students yet - I think some of the them would do well with it but I can also imagine that some would not know what to do. I have successfully done wikis so maybe I just need to take the plunge and try it!

High school kids tend to love blogs - most do it all the time (MySpace). It gives them a place on the web to have a voice. (Teens don't always have a voice with adults telling what to do - at least that is how they view it! lol)
ReplyDeleteBlogs would be a great place to post a paragraph on something talked/read about and then have students post comments to your post and each others. Conversations tend to be more dynamic as the quiet kids are more participatory online.
I read Jenkin's blog about student blogs and considered it interesting also. I do believe blogging would be good for high school and college students. Students that are usually quiet like myself do not fear making comments on the computer.
